EE Research reaps spot for Nat’l Research Contest finals

Undergraduate research of Electrical Engineering students earned spot for Top 5 Best Research in the 11th EE Research Contest held at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, November 23.

The contest started with the presentation of a number of research poster entries from the different parts of the country but only the top 5 advanced for the research presentation and defense.

Entitled “Design and Development of a Local Backup Protection for Main Distribution Board using Arduino Microcontroller” as the entry of LPU-L, this research joined other top entries of the following schools: Technological Institute of the Philippines-Quezon City, University of Southeastern Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila, and Mapua Institute of Technology.

Jussel Alejandre, fifth year Electrical Engineering student and one of the proponents, presented and defended the research to the board of judges comprised of Engr. Delia Fainson, Engr. Marianne Yumul, Engr. Gamaliel Itoo, Engr. Lyndon Bague, and Engr. Genesis Ramos.

The presentation lasted for 20 minutes while the question and answer portion took 25 minutes.

According to Alejandre, he is very blessed to have an opportunity of representing the school in a national research contest. He also said that he is extremely happy for the accomplishment that their research attained.

In the end, University of Southeastern Philippines brought home the first place finish with Php 30,000 cash prize. Technological Institute of the Philippines-Quezon City secured the second place with Php 20,000 while Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila got the third place with Php 10,000.

Furthermore, the research is also co-authored by Mark Bonnin Landicho, and Ryan Wowie Octavio, also 5th year Electrical Engineering students. Engr. Favis Joseph Balinado and Engr. Bryan Dimayuga are the thesis adviser and technical adviser, respectively.

Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) organized the contest in line with the 41st Annual National Convention and 3E XPO 2016.
