LYCINEMA FILM FESTIVAL HONORS YOUNG TALENTS IN FILMMAKING

FILM is one of the most celebrated art forms then and now. It is a form of storytelling that gives freedom to the use of creativity and imagination. Its process, filmmaking, is composed of collaborative effort and a unified vision that brings life to such a unique art form.
This is the central theme at the LyCinema Film Festival Awards that recognized and honored the young talents in filmmaking last April 11, 2019, at Ermita, Manila.
Hanap Patay, an LPU-Laguna entry, follows the story of two brothers who involved themselves in making a living out of collecting money from people in funerals. It bagged the Best Picture Award as well as the award for Best Production Design and Best Sound Design.
Another LPU-Laguna entry, Not Today, won Best Short Film, Best Cinematography, Best Teaser, and Best Actor for the performance of Nathaniel Alejandrino as Daniel Carreon, an 18-year-old guy who had a tough childhood and who later on his life, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder
LPU-Manila’s Last Class obtained the 2nd Best Short Film Award and the Best Actress Award for the performance of Herrlyn Caluban. Its other entry, Palangga, was also among the six finalists.
Meanwhile, two more of LPU Laguna’s entries, Byline and Synesthesia, triumphed as well. Byline won the Best Film Poster Award, whereas Synesthesia won Best Editing and Best Director for Caleb Mercado.
The film entries this year were judged and deliberated by some of the names who have the talent and experience in filmmaking including James Robin Mayo (Director, Kuya Wes), Laydee Gasalao (Film Producer, Spring Films Production), Thop Nazareno (Director, Kiko Boksingero), and Cezar De Leon Jr. (Independent Producer).
Last year, LPU-Laguna’s Ikaw. Ako won 1st Best Film. Michael John Ramiro, an AB Multimedia Arts student, won Best Actor for his outstanding portrayal as Pau-Pau, a deaf and mute beggar.
LyCinema is the official Film Festival of LPU Manila’s College of Arts and Sciences that is participated by different LPU Campuses – Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, and Manila.
