“We should have the courage and determination to realize the mission of this institution.”

In this year’s Founder’s Lecture, Rector-President of San Beda College-Manila Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ma. A. Maranan, OSB was the Keynote Speaker who inspired the Lyceans in the endeavors of internationalization, research, and the challenge of the ASEAN integration.

Fr. Maranan left a message to the LPU community that deals also with the globalization challenge: “If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is in sight.”

There were chosen reactors from the LPU community who gave comments and reactions to Fr. Maranan’s speech – the Administration was represented by Mr. Ramon George Atento, Planning & Quality Assurance Executive Director; Faculty was represented by College of Arts & Sciences resident Sociologist, Mr. Mike Labayandoy; and the Studentry was represented by BS Psychology student Margarita Mostoles.

This was the 4th Annual Founder’s Lecture which was created in 2012 as part of the Foundation Week Celebration. This is when we bring distinguished speakers to our institution to broaden our perspective and suggest new opportunities and areas of responsibility in our profession.

This is the perfect time for us to re-acquaint ourselves with our mission, especially now that we face the challenges of the K-12 implementation, the ASEAN integration, internationalization, among others.

“As Lyceans, we are expected not just to be God-centered, nationalistic, or service-oriented, but to also be innovative as we respond to these challenges. We cannot have more of the same. This event would also speak of how as Lyceans we live by the inspiration of our Founder, Former Senator, Dr. Sotero H. Laurel, and the vision set forth by his son, our dear President, Dr. Peter P. Laurel,” remarked by Ms. Felisse Marianne San Juan, Center for Internationalization and Continuing Education Director, stating the purpose of the said event.
